Magazine, and founder Sarah Symons was honored as a REDBOOK hero. Sarah's message to readers: "Our survivors possess deep inner beauty and courage, far greater than the damage and evil that has been done to them. They are the true heroes of our organization, and I thank you for caring enough to want to help them. The quickest way you can help is to buy a survivor-made product, and spread the word every time you wear it. You can also make a donation to help support our many programs - our employment centers for survivors in Calcutta, the Freedom School for former quarry slaves, jobs and education programs for survivors in Nepal, Thailand, Cambodia, Uganda and New York, rescue and aftercare. Believe me, we stretch every dollar, re-use every box, and keep overhead costs to an absolute minimum so that every donation can go where it is needed most - to help people get free from slavery and remain slavery-free through empowerment and education.
We are also in great need of school sponsors for child survivors and kids born into brothels - you can change a child's life and end the cycle of slavery ina family forever for $30 a month. Unlike most other charities that do sponsorship, we do not take any money out for administrative costs- 100% of the sponsorship money goes to school fees, shelter or boarding school room and board, transportation and wire fees.
As you may have read in the article, I'm also a mom and I run this agency in partnership with my husband John Berger (challenging but wonderful situation!) Watching my own kids grow up safe, strong, educated and free really adds motivation to my work for the children in slavery that are not so lucky. Some of the survivors i met on my last trip in january were young enough to sit on my lap. And that's unacceptable!
Please don't stop here - join our community and continue to research slavery and learn more so that you can become a modern day abolitionist. We need your voices, your loving hands, and your compassionate heart which perhaps like mine is broken by the human rights emergency of slavery.

I am so incredibly proud of all you have done and still can't believe how far you've come. When you first started TEN, I was a little high schooler and felt so dwarfed by everything that you were trying to do. And here you are, accomplished so much, and I still feel dwarfed by the magnitude of your selflessness and genuine love for other people. You have always been such an inspiration to me, and I cannot find the words to express how grateful I am for that. You truly are an amazing person and I love and miss you and your family immensely: we all do!

Very moved by the Redbook article and want to help...

As a couple who has struggled to build a family, it continues to sadden and shock me to learn of the injustices done to innocent children around the world. I am happy to add financial support to such a great cause and hope that I can do more.

You are such an inspiration and I am so thankful that I have had the chance to get to know you.
